St. Louis Offers Free Firewood This Winter – Supplies Limited!

URGENT UPDATE: St. Louis residents can now access FREE firewood this winter through the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. The program is available at select locations while supplies last, providing an essential resource as temperatures drop.

Residents can pick up firewood at three designated sites: the lower Muny Opera Parking Lot in Forest Park, near the compost area off Holly Hills Drive in Carondelet Park, and north of Picnic Site #4 in O’Fallon Park. This initiative demonstrates the City of St. Louis’ dedication to sustainability and community support during the colder months.

According to Parks Director Greg Hayes, this initiative is made possible through ongoing park maintenance and storm response efforts. The City is repurposing firewood from tree removal work, ensuring that residents have access to warmth without additional cost.

Firewood will be available for pick-up from Monday to Friday afternoons, but supplies are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will run through early March 2026, depending on availability. Importantly, commercial vehicles or trailers are not permitted to collect firewood.

Residents looking for more information can contact the Forestry Division at (314) 613-7200.

This program not only helps residents stay warm during winter but also reflects a sustainable approach to city resources. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to secure your firewood—head to one of the designated parks today!
