UPDATE: A tragic crash on State Highway 211 near Potranco Road on Wednesday evening has left one person dead and three others hospitalized. This incident has ignited urgent concerns among residents in far west Bexar County about escalating traffic dangers linked to rampant construction in the area.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the fatality occurred shortly after the crash, which has raised alarms about the safety of local roads. Residents argue that the rapid growth of new developments is outpacing essential infrastructure improvements, making the area increasingly accident-prone.
Residents like Carol Penaloza voiced their frustrations, stating, “They’re continuing to build, and the roads and the infrastructure, everything is under construction at the same time.” Many locals, including Keith Eagle, echoed her concerns, noting that the influx of traffic combined with inadequate road support is a recipe for disaster. “There’s just so much traffic flowing through here, and they keep on trying to build new things,” Eagle said.
Neighbor Edward Fuentes added that speeding is also a significant issue, with drivers often exceeding safe limits. “Normally, when I’m coming in, I’m coming around 60 miles an hour. I usually have to drop down to like 40 just to allow others to speed up,” he explained.
Residents are calling for immediate action from local authorities. Penaloza believes that halting or slowing down new construction may alleviate the traffic crisis. “They’ve got to slow down on the building and do the roads maybe first, or do a section at a time and get it done with,” she suggested.
The sentiment among locals is growing increasingly urgent as they feel neglected in the planning process. “It feels like they’ve just forgotten to think about the roadways out here while they’re building everything up,” Eagle stated.
In light of this tragic event, community members are urging local officials to reassess development plans and prioritize safety measures before another life is lost. As traffic continues to surge, the spotlight remains on Bexar County to take decisive action to protect its residents.
This developing story is expected to prompt further discussions about infrastructure and safety measures in rapidly growing areas. Stay tuned for updates as officials respond to these urgent community concerns.
