Portland Artist Dennis M. Fournier Passes Away at 65

Dennis M. Fournier, a celebrated artist from Portland, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 65 due to complications from a stroke. Born on June 2, 1959, to Vivian Jameson Fournier and William D. Fournier, Dennis was well known for his vibrant contributions to the art community in Maine.

A Life Dedicated to Art and Community

Dennis grew up in South Portland, where he attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School. He later pursued his passion for the arts at the University of Maine, where he honed his skills and developed a distinctive style that resonated with many. His artwork, characterized by its vivid colors and emotional depth, can be found at various locations throughout the state, including the scenic Eastern and Western Promenades and the iconic Portland Headlight.

As a familiar figure in the local art scene, Dennis often set up his easel at popular spots like The Old Port and the beaches of Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth. Many of his pieces were created on-site, and he frequently sold his work to passersby. His art adorned local businesses, coffee shops, and bakeries, showcasing his talent and passion.

A Multifaceted Life

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Dennis was a gifted guitarist, sharing his love for music with friends and family. Often seen playing at local gigs in the greater Portland area, he brought joy and entertainment to many through his performances. Family gatherings were a cherished time for Dennis, who enjoyed lively jam sessions with his nieces and nephews, turning simple moments into treasured memories.

Dennis was known for his warm personality and engaging conversations, which often sparked laughter and camaraderie. His independent spirit and generous heart endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. He built close friendships throughout his life, starting with his childhood group known as “The Corner Gang.”

He is survived by his older brother, Dana W. Fournier, and sister-in-law Lori; his sister, Donna M. Piscopo, and brother-in-law Tom; along with several nieces and nephews, including April D. Fournier and her children, Zevon, William Icarus, and Asher, as well as Megan L. Chasse with her children, Levi, Tillie, Rosie, and Ellie, and nephews Thomas C. Piscopo and Nicholas A. Piscopo.

He was predeceased by his parents, leaving a legacy of creativity, friendship, and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at North 43 Bistro, located at 1 Spring Point Drive, on November 30, 2025, from 16:00 to 19:00. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Dennis’s life and contributions to the community he cherished.
