Belding’s Ethan King Crowned Offensive Football Player of the Year

Belding High School junior Ethan King has been named the 2025 Daily News Offensive Football Player of the Year following an exceptional varsity season. King, who plays as a running back, was instrumental in leading the Black Knights to their fourth consecutive OK Silver conference title and sixth straight playoff appearance. He achieved remarkable statistics with 148 carries, totaling 1,564 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 10.57 yards per carry.

Reflecting on his performance, King expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Head Coach Monty Price. “I feel really great about it,” King said. “Coach Price put a lot of trust in me by switching my position coming into this year. It was overwhelming at first, but seeing how well I did in week one was encouraging.”

King’s contributions have been vital to the Black Knights’ high-scoring offense this season. His outstanding performance not only earned him the coveted title but also recognition as All Conference and All Region by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.

From Recovery to Recognition

King’s journey to this achievement was not without challenges. After undergoing shoulder surgery last year, he faced a rigorous recovery process before returning to the field. He started participating in summer workouts as he transitioned into the fullback position. “Last year, after football season, I had surgery on my shoulder and was out for several months,” he shared. “Coming back and proving myself was rewarding.”

His notable performances include a standout game against Godwin Heights, where he recorded 14 carries for 247 yards, including 171 yards in the first half, and scored four touchdowns. Additionally, he achieved an 88-yard kick return for a touchdown this season.

Coach Price praised King’s work ethic and leadership skills, stating, “He’s exceeded all expectations. It’s exciting when a young man comes out and accepts a change in his role and is unselfish in that regard.” Despite being surrounded by a seasoned group of 17 seniors, King emerged as a quiet leader, focusing on teamwork and collaboration.

Looking Ahead

As the Black Knights prepare for the next season, King aims to continue making his mark within the program. “I just want to prove myself once again,” he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the team’s winning streak. “I certainly don’t want to be the senior class to end the streak for us, so I would love to keep that going.”

Price reiterated his commitment to King’s development, noting that the player is already working hard in the weight room to prepare for the upcoming season. “He is just such a determined young man,” Price said.

King’s story serves as a testament to resilience and hard work in the face of adversity. With his impressive performance this season and his drive for improvement, he is poised to make significant contributions to the Black Knights in the future.
