UPDATE: Colorado State University has officially announced the hiring of Jim Mora as the team’s 25th head football coach, making him the highest-paid coach in program history. The introduction will take place Monday at Canvas Stadium, highlighting the Rams’ commitment to elevating their football program.
Mora’s contract, spanning five years, starts with a base salary of $2.4 million, increasing by $100,000 annually, culminating at $2.8 million in 2030. This significant financial commitment underscores CSU’s ambition to revitalize its football team after a disappointing 2-10 season last year.
Additionally, Mora will receive a $150,000 signing bonus within 100 days of his hire. His contract includes various performance incentives that could lead to substantial additional earnings. For instance, Mora stands to gain $25,000 for each season the Rams win six games, escalating to $400,000 if they secure twelve wins.
Moreover, if CSU reaches the Pac-12 Conference championship game, Mora will earn an extra $75,000, with a $100,000 bonus for winning that game. Should the Rams qualify for a non-College Football Playoff bowl game, Mora could earn another $50,000, rising to $75,000 for a victory in that bowl.
Mora’s contract also includes bonuses tied to the team’s academic performance and fan engagement. Notably, he will receive $150,000 if named national coach of the year and $50,000 if the team achieves a graduation success rate of 80% or better. Further, bonuses for home attendance increases and academic achievements are also part of his compensation package.
The buyout clause is structured to protect CSU financially; if Mora is fired without just cause, the university will pay 75% of his remaining contract. Should Mora leave before the end of his five years, the buyout starts at $5 million in the first year, decreasing each subsequent year.
This urgent announcement comes as CSU aims to turn around its football fortunes under Mora’s leadership. With clear financial incentives for both team performance and academic success, the Rams are poised to pursue a brighter future.
As Mora embarks on this new chapter, fans and stakeholders are eager to see how this strategic hire will affect the team’s trajectory. Keep an eye on CSU’s progress as they prepare for the upcoming season, and watch for updates on Mora’s impact both on and off the field.
