URGENT UPDATE: Christine M. Fitzpatrick, the cherished former mayor of Ballston Spa, has passed away at the age of 75. Her family and friends confirmed the news just moments ago, sending shockwaves through the community she profoundly impacted.
Born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Christine dedicated her life to public service and education, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and community involvement. Known for her trailblazing spirit, she made history as the first female mayor of Ballston Spa, where she served with unwavering commitment from 1981 until her retirement.
During her tenure, Christine transformed the village’s finances, turning a staggering $300,000 deficit into a robust $4.8 million fund balance. Her strategic leadership fostered significant investments in essential services and community development, earning her the deep respect and admiration of residents.
Christine’s contributions extended far beyond her role as mayor. She worked as an elementary school teacher and held various positions in public service, including at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington, D.C. Her passion for advocacy culminated in her role as the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council, where she tirelessly supported member agencies.
The impact of her loss is palpable. Christine was not only a dedicated public servant but also a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her siblings, cherished partner Richard Dautner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine’s family invites the community to celebrate her life during calling hours on Wednesday, December 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Christine’s name to the Friends of the Ballston Spa Public Library, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or The Community Hospice.
