Octillion Transitions Pune Facility to 100% Solar Power for EV Batteries

California-based Octillion has successfully converted its manufacturing facility in Pune, India, to operate entirely on solar energy. This significant achievement, announced on December 2, 2025, enhances Octillion’s commitment to sustainability in the lifecycle of its electric vehicle (EV) battery systems.

The Pune factory, which spans approximately 8,200 square meters—equivalent to two football pitches—now boasts an annual solar capacity of 545MWh. This conversion means the facility is now fully powered by carbon-neutral energy, aligning with Octillion’s goal to become carbon neutral across all its Indian operations by 2027.

Paul Beach, Global President of Octillion, emphasized the importance of this transition, stating, “India’s electric vehicle market is accelerating rapidly, and we’re committed to ensuring this growth is truly sustainable. By converting our manufacturing to solar power, we’re closing the loop—producing the clean energy storage solutions of tomorrow, using clean energy today.” The Pune facility is the first among Octillion’s three manufacturing plants in India to achieve this milestone.

The factory plays a vital role in the burgeoning Indian automotive market, generating 3GWh of total annual battery capacity. The recent solar installation will meet the facility’s entire power requirements, marking a substantial step forward in Octillion’s comprehensive sustainability initiative.

Inaugurated in June 2023, the solar conversion process began in June 2024 and reached full operational status by July 2025, taking just 13 months to complete. This rapid transition reflects Octillion’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility.

Nikhil Parchure, Senior Vice President at Octillion, highlighted the company’s strategic positioning in India’s EV sector. “With three large-scale battery manufacturing facilities in India, two in Pune and one in Gujarat, Octillion is uniquely positioned to serve the fast-growing needs of India’s electric vehicle sector in volume, cost, and convenience,” he noted.

Over the past decade, Octillion has developed a robust supply chain that supports the Indian automotive industry. Parchure added, “We will continue to advance our efforts in India and globally by providing cutting-edge, safe battery systems, working to leave the least environmental impact possible in the transportation sector.”

Founded in Richmond, California, Octillion is a Tier 1 supplier of advanced high-density energy storage systems. With ten manufacturing facilities worldwide, the company has delivered over 2 million EV batteries and has seen over 33 billion kilometers driven using its systems. In 2024, Octillion reported delivering over 16.55GWh of energy.

As Octillion continues its journey towards sustainability, the transition of its Pune facility to solar power stands as a testament to its commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
