Hy-Vee and First Responders Distribute 300 Hams to Local Families

UPDATE: Hy-Vee and local first responders have just distributed 300 Hormel Cure 81 hams to families in Rochester, marking a significant effort to combat food insecurity this holiday season. The event took place earlier today, December 2, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rochester Armory.

The annual “Hams for the Holidays” initiative, now in its eighth year, aims to provide families with nutritious meals during a time when many struggle to put food on the table. “Hy-Vee’s done a lot of great things this year for the community,” said Chad Launderville, store director at Hy-Vee. He highlighted the store’s commitment to local families, including providing free meals for thousands of children and donating Thanksgiving bags to Rochester Public Schools.

This year’s effort is part of a larger mission, with 5,000 hams being distributed across 20 different locations in Hy-Vee’s nine-state region. The initiative exemplifies the spirit of giving back and addresses urgent needs within the community.

As families gather for the holidays, such initiatives become crucial in alleviating food shortages. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, showcasing the power of collaboration between businesses and local organizations to support those in need.

Residents are encouraged to share this impactful news and stay informed about upcoming community support events. With the holiday season upon us, every contribution counts in making a difference for families facing food insecurity.
