This award highlights Rojas’ unwavering commitment to community policing, showcasing his proactive and compassionate approach to law enforcement. Chief Jake Fisher praised Rojas, stating, “He is completely dedicated to his job. His innovative strategies have enhanced relationships with schools, businesses, and residents, propelling our community mission forward.”
Rojas has been pivotal in fostering trust and cooperation within the El Monte community, serving as a critical link between law enforcement and residents. “His willingness to engage the community has built public trust and a culture of compassion across El Monte,” POALAC officials stated while announcing the award.
His award-winning efforts include spearheading community-focused initiatives like the Christmas Holiday Toy Giveaway, Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, and National Night Out. Rojas has long been at the forefront of outreach programs that unite families, youth, and police officers, significantly impacting public safety and community relations.
Jessie Redd, managing director for public safety initiatives at the USC Price Center, noted Rojas’ profound dedication to community service. “Officer Rojas deserves recognition because he leads with compassion,” Redd remarked. “His consistent presence and kindness in our community exemplify what community-centered policing should be.”
In addition to Rojas’ accolade, the El Monte Police Department received another honor during the ceremony. Volunteer Jane Ellis was recognized for her 18 years of service in the Volunteers Caring and Patrolling Program (VCAP), demonstrating the department’s commitment to community engagement.
The ceremony also featured the Monrovia Police Department, which earned an Excellence in Community Policing (Team) award for its Community Activists Policing Bureau, further highlighting the critical importance of community relations in law enforcement.
