Remembering Harold Meredith Klonecky: A Legacy of Education

Harold Meredith Klonecky, a beloved educator and community figure, passed away at the age of 98 in Torrance, California, on November 16, 2025. Born on May 22, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, he dedicated much of his life to teaching and mentoring students. His impact on education and the community endures through the many lives he touched.

Klonecky earned his Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University, where he began his career in education as a teacher of English and Drama. In 1955, he relocated to Torrance, California, and began teaching English at North High School. His dedication to education led him to pursue further studies, culminating in a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California.

A Lasting Influence on Torrance Schools

After earning his doctorate, Dr. Klonecky spent 25 years at Torrance High School, where he served as an Assistant Principal before becoming Principal. He retired in 1987, but his influence within the school community remained strong. Known for his patience and kindness, he was well-respected by students, faculty, and parents alike.

Even at 98 years old, Klonecky remained actively involved with Torrance High School retirees. His life was marked by a commitment to education and an enduring passion for helping others. Outside of his professional life, he enjoyed golfing and had a particular fondness for reading mystery novels. Klonecky was also an accomplished dancer, often sought after as a dance partner at social gatherings.

Celebrating a Life Well-Lived

Harold Meredith Klonecky is survived by his family, including Theresa and Jeff Heiney and their son, Erick, as well as Jen and Patrick Sullivan and their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Klonecky.

The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Klonecky’s life on December 15, 2025. A Visitation and Rosary will take place from 16:00 to 20:00 at the Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Avenue in Lomita, California. A Funeral Mass will follow on December 16, 2025, at 10:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, situated at 25511 Eshelman Avenue in Lomita. After the Mass, a reception will be held at Hof’s Hut at 11:30, located at 23635 Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance.

As the community mourns the loss of Dr. Klonecky, his legacy of dedication to education and genuine care for others will be remembered by all who knew him.
