Celebrated Life of Lloyd Goerke: A Legacy of Service and Achievement

Lloyd Goerke, a respected member of the Woodbury community, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 94. His death marks the end of a rich life filled with accomplishments, service, and devotion to family. He is survived by his wife, Ann Goerke, his adopted son Charles Anderson and his wife Lesa, stepson Robbin Anderson and his wife Valerie, along with two granddaughters, a great-grandson, a great-granddaughter, two nieces, and a nephew.

Early Life and Education

Born on January 5, 1931, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Lloyd grew up on a family farm. He received his early education at a one-room country school before graduating as valedictorian from his high school in 1949. His academic journey continued at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Chemistry in 1953.

Lloyd began his professional career at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in St. Louis, Missouri, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956 as an Aviation Officer Candidate. He underwent flight training in Pensacola, Florida, and Hutchinson, Kansas, earning his Navy Wings of Gold in 1957. Lloyd’s military service included a two-year overseas tour in the Western Pacific, followed by three years with the Naval Reserve in Minneapolis.

Career at 3M and Community Involvement

In 1960, Lloyd embarked on a 32-year career with the 3M Company, where he held various technical and supervisory roles across four plants. His positions included production superintendent and plant manager, culminating in retirement as the Division Manufacturing Director in 1991.

Beyond his professional life, Lloyd was dedicated to his community. He enjoyed activities such as golfing, bowling, fishing, and reading, and volunteered extensively through programs like Meals on Wheels, food shelves, and Tax-Aide for the elderly. His commitment to service also included support for Wesley Meals, which assists disadvantaged individuals in downtown Minneapolis.

A passionate sports fan, Lloyd was an avid supporter of the Golden Gopher football and basketball teams. His legacy extends beyond his lifetime through scholarships established in his name at the University of Minnesota and Carleton College.

Final Farewell

Lloyd was a long-time member of the Grove United Methodist Church, actively serving on its Board of Trustees and holding the position of chairman for one year. His community contributions and personal relationships leave a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Friends and family are invited to an evening visitation on December 19, 2025, from 17:00 to 19:00 at O’Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home in Woodbury. A funeral service will take place the following morning at The Grove United Methodist Church, starting with visitation at 10:00, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 and lunch at noon. Lloyd will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Lloyd Goerke’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and community spirit. His numerous contributions will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
