PCM Girls Wrestling Team Splits Duals at Woodward-Granger

BREAKING: The PCM girls wrestling team achieved a mixed performance at the Woodward-Granger dual tournament on December 1, 2023, splitting their four duals. The Mustangs triumphed over North Polk and Clarke but faced defeats against host Woodward-Granger and Dallas Center-Grimes.

In a strong showing, Emma Beyer finished the day with an impressive 4-0 record, securing three wins by forfeit. Meanwhile, Hadley Millang contributed significantly, winning three matches, including a stunning pin in just 11 seconds at the 135-pound weight class.

The Mustangs notched a decisive 42-23 victory against Clarke, where they capitalized on five of six forfeits. Despite being 2-3 in contested matches, the team showcased their depth with nine wrestlers claiming at least two wins throughout the tournament. Millang and Addison Fry also excelled, winning their contested matches by fall at 135 and 115 pounds, respectively.

In a tight contest against North Polk, PCM edged out a victory on criteria, securing six forfeit wins. Millang again shone with her rapid pin, although the team struggled with 1-3 in contested matches. Several wrestlers, including Ryan DeVore (110), Courtney Cole (120), Holly Wood (140), Macie Kain (145), and Beyer (170), claimed forfeit victories.

The Mustangs faced stiff competition from Woodward-Granger, falling 48-28 despite a commendable performance. Wilkerson secured a pin in just 17 seconds at 155, and Beyer won decisively with an 18-7 major decision at 170. Both teams had three forfeits, with PCM’s wins coming from Lily Birkenholtz, DeVore, and Fry.

In their final dual against Dallas Center-Grimes, the Mustangs struggled, suffering a 60-18 defeat. Millang was the lone bright spot, winning by fall in the first period. The team finished the day with a 1-7 record in contested matches, though Beyer and Cole also contributed with forfeit wins.
