The CNY Diaper Bank is reaching out to the community this holiday season, urging residents to contribute to a cause that supports local families facing economic hardship. The organization is encouraging monetary donations to help provide diapers for families in need, emphasizing the importance of meeting basic necessities during this critical time.
Residents, local groups, and businesses can make secure donations online at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. To enhance the impact of contributions, all donations made before January 1, 2026, will be matched up to a total of $5,000, thanks to funding from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. Each dollar donated can supply a day’s worth of diapers for a local baby.
“Nearly half of families with young children experience diaper need,” said Michela Hugo, Founder of the CNY Diaper Bank. “When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change.”
The issue of diaper need is often exacerbated by low wages and the rising cost of living, leading many parents to face difficult choices. The CNY Diaper Bank is committed to providing immediate support to families while also advocating for policy changes to alleviate these pressures.
Though diapers are essential for infants, they are not covered by programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Women, Infants, and Children benefits. The financial burden can be significant, with the cost of diapers for a single child reaching approximately $100 per month. This expense can be unmanageable for many families.
“Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” Hugo added.
As the largest diaper bank in New York State, the CNY Diaper Bank collaborates with various partner agencies, distributing an average of 200,000 diapers to about 4,000 local babies and toddlers each month. Since its inception in May 2016, the organization has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need.
The CNY Diaper Bank operates as a nonprofit that was established to assist social service organizations in the Syracuse area. It is a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, which works to raise awareness about diaper need across the United States.
