Corner Canyon’s head football coach, Eric Kjar, has been appointed as the new head football coach at Weber State, marking a significant shift for both the coach and the program. Announced on Tuesday, this decision brings Kjar’s impressive track record in high school football to the collegiate level.
In his statement, Kjar expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, saying, “I’m very excited to be leading the Weber State football program. I believe strongly in the administration and the current roster and the talent in the state of Utah. I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
Proven Success in High School Football
Kjar’s reputation as one of Utah’s most successful high school football coaches is well-deserved. Over his 14 years at Corner Canyon, he secured seven 6A state titles, just one shy of the state record. Notably, six of these championships were achieved in the last eight seasons, including two three-peats. His overall record at Corner Canyon stands at an impressive 112-10.
Following his latest state title victory in November, Corner Canyon was selected to participate in the inaugural high school national championship game, hosted by Overtime and Omaha Productions, facing off against St. Francis Academy.
A Bright Future for Weber State Football
Weber State athletics director Tim Crompton highlighted Kjar’s potential to transform the football program. He stated, “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time. His deep Utah roots, proven leadership, and unwavering ability to build a program on a foundation of talent and character are the precise qualities that Weber State is looking for to define our next era of football.” He emphasized Kjar’s capability to attract and nurture student-athletes who embody the institution’s core values.
Kjar has been instrumental in the development of several players who progressed to successful careers at the Division I level. Notably, Zach Wilson was drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, while Jaxson Dart was selected 25th overall by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Crompton also remarked on the significance of Kjar’s hiring for the entire Weber State community, saying, “We are incredibly excited to officially welcome coach Kjar and his family into our city and the entire Wildcat family. We know he shares our values and look forward to the energy and commitment he will bring as a leader and a neighbor.” Kjar is a family man with four children, further enhancing his connection to the community.
As Kjar steps into this new role, the expectations are high, but so is the excitement for what lies ahead for Weber State football. With Kjar’s leadership, the Wildcats aim to carve out a new chapter of success in collegiate football.
