Theater for the New City in New York is set to kick off its 2026 season with two operas composed by Leonard Lehrman. The first production, titled “Sima,” will feature a talented cast including Kira Neary, Bennett Pologe, Perri Sussman, Samantha Long, and Hannah Grace Hollingsworth. The opera will also showcase a chorus composed of Addie Grant, Michael Jiang, Desi Sandoval, Boaz Katz, Noelle Louis, Lily Nussbaum, Jacob Hollingsworth, Miranda Libanan, Luka Zylik, and Niko Zylik. Direction will be handled by Lissa Moira, with Marsh Shugart contributing to the production’s artistic vision. The performance is scheduled from January 8 to January 25, 2026.
The second opera, “E.G.: A Musical Portrait of Emma Goldman,” will feature Caryn Hartglass in the titular role. In an innovative approach, Hartglass will perform alongside Lehrman, who will play various male characters while also accompanying on piano. This production, also directed by Lissa Moira, is set to take place from January 9 to January 24, 2026.
The costume design for both operas is crafted by Billy Little, while the graphic and video design elements are provided by Roy Chang.
