Deputy DA Stephanie Wills Honored in Emotional Farewell Ceremony

UPDATE: Retiring Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Wills was honored in a heartfelt ceremony on October 26, 2023, at the Delaware County Courthouse. The courtroom was filled to standing capacity with colleagues and friends, reflecting her remarkable impact over nearly three decades in public service.

Outgoing District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and incoming District Attorney Tanner Rouse praised Wills for her exceptional career. Stollsteimer humorously remarked on his own retirement plans, stating, “It’s hard for me to even imagine what this office is going to be like without her.” Rouse described Wills as a “legendary attorney” whose guidance has been invaluable, especially during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony featured the presentation of a plaque commemorating Wills’ dedication and service. “I have loved being a DA,” Wills said, expressing gratitude to her colleagues and the community for their support throughout her career.

Wills began her journey with the county as a college intern in 1994 and has held various positions, culminating in her role as Deputy District Attorney. Her career has been marked by significant cases, including high-profile homicides and complex legal challenges. Wills noted the emotional weight of the cases she handled, particularly the impact on victims’ families.

As she transitions to retirement, Wills plans to spend more time with her family. “It’s been a long time, and I’m ready,” she stated, leaving her future open-ended but hopeful.

Officials and colleagues alike emphasize the void her departure will create within the Delaware County legal community. “The office will be sorely missing her presence,” Stollsteimer added, highlighting Wills’ mentorship and dedication to justice.

This farewell serves as a reminder of Wills’ significant contributions to the justice system and the lasting legacy she leaves behind. As she moves forward, many anticipate her eventual return to the legal field, given her passion and expertise.

For those impacted by Wills’ work, her retirement marks the end of an era, but her influence will undoubtedly resonate within Delaware County for years to come.
