Born on July 14, 1938, in Oakland, California, Jerry’s early years were spent in Lafayette before he moved to Sausalito, where he would eventually spend more than 50 years. His life journey included stints in Portland, Oregon, but his heart remained anchored in Sausalito.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Maidalee “Maxey” Eileen Kroijer-Stram, who passed away in 2014. His first wife, Dustine Dorothy Rohl-Stram-Nelson, died in 2001. He is survived by two children: Denise Stram-Youngblood and Kenneth Stram, along with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Jerry embraced adventure and camaraderie. He enjoyed travel, camping, and fishing, often sharing a $3 beer at the Marin Brewing Company with friends. A dedicated sports fan, he supported the San Francisco 49ers since the late 1940s, maintaining his loyalty through the team’s highs and lows. He watched a game against the Rams on his final day, a fitting tribute to his enduring passion for the sport.
A Community Pillar
Jerry was not only a family man but also a committed member of his community. He graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1956 and furthered his education at the College of Marin and Humboldt State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, an experience that shaped his values and dedication to service.
For many years, Jerry volunteered with the Sausalito Lions Club and contributed significantly to the Sausalito Art Festival, showcasing his commitment to local culture and arts.
In a final act of generosity, Jerry donated his remains to science at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). His ashes will be scattered beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, allowing friends and family to pay their respects at a location that held special meaning for him.
