Theodore C. Bale, Influential Artist and Writer, Passes Away at 67

BREAKING: Renowned artist and writer Theodore C. Bale has died at the age of 67 in Groton, NY, as confirmed by family sources. Bale, who passed away on November 18, 2025, leaves behind a legacy of creativity as a musician, dancer, and writer whose work spanned decades.

Bale, born on August 5, 1958, in Hartford, CT, was a multi-talented individual, known for his profound impact on the arts community. His journey began with music, studying piano under his mother, Rosalia Julia Bale, and later at the Hartt School of Music, where he honed his skills under prominent instructors.

Throughout his career, Bale was deeply involved in the arts. He performed with the Northern Connecticut Ballet Company for seven years, and from 1986 to 2010, he made significant contributions to Boston’s arts scene as a dance critic for the Boston Herald. His writing was published in various prestigious outlets, and in 2005, he received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

After relocating to Houston, TX, in 2010, Bale continued his work as a grant writer and coordinator at esteemed institutions such as MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Menil Collection. His freelance writing flourished, and he served as a lecturer at Rice University, inspiring students with his extensive knowledge and passion for the arts.

Bale traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with his journeys influencing his artistic expression. Notably, he cycled across the United States in 1997, a journey that became a focal point of his visual art.

A devoted Buddhist, Bale embraced the teachings of the Buddha, receiving the Tibetan name Tsültrim Tharpa, meaning “Discipline Liberation.” He is survived by his loving husband of 25 years, Dr. Joseph Anthony Campana, and his sister, Victoria Ruth Bale, along with many friends who cherished his vibrant spirit.

Bale’s interment is scheduled for May 31, 2026, at the Dewachen Columbarium in Delhi, NY. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to organizations including Hospicare of Ithaca, Pine Street Inn in Boston, and others that support wildlife conservation.
