Wyomissing Police Respond to Series of Crashes and Incidents

On December 21, 2023, the Wyomissing Police Department managed a busy day marked by crashes, arrests, and multiple incidents throughout the area. The day’s events included a vehicle collision that resulted in an officer being hospitalized, as well as various traffic violations and theft reports.

One of the most critical incidents occurred shortly before 01:00 on Chestnut Street near Fifth Avenue in West Reading. A marked police vehicle from Wyomissing was struck by another vehicle that allegedly ran a red light. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were subsequently towed from the scene. The officer involved was transported to Reading Hospital Medical Center for evaluation, while West Reading Police took over the investigation into the crash.

Earlier that morning, Wyomissing officers assisted their counterparts in West Reading with a weapons-related incident on Third Avenue. A man reportedly brandished a knife at security personnel, but no additional information regarding charges or injuries has been released.

Police also noted an attempted traffic stop on Route 422 near North Wyomissing Boulevard after midnight. The driver of a vehicle allegedly fled the scene at a high speed, prompting officers to refrain from pursuit due to safety concerns linked to reckless driving.

Throughout the day, officers conducted numerous traffic stops that resulted in several warnings and citations. Alleged violations included expired registration, lack of insurance, window tint infractions, and driving without a valid license.

Additionally, police responded to several burglar alarms across the borough, all of which were later determined to be false alarms or canceled before officers arrived. Other calls included suspicious vehicles, 911 hang-up calls, a hit-and-run incident involving a parked police vehicle in Reading, and a report of theft of services on Woodland Road, where a man left a restaurant without paying after his card was declined.

Domestic Incidents and Arrests

In the evening, Wyomissing officers collaborated with police in Shillington and West Reading to respond to domestic-related incidents. In Shillington, one male was taken into custody following reports of a physical altercation. Meanwhile, in West Reading, officers dealt with a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex, where the involved male voluntarily left the premises for the night.

Another incident involved a reported attempted theft by a juvenile on Crossing Drive. A young girl was allegedly seen trying to remove signs from a fallen street sign post. Authorities released the juvenile to a parent at the scene.

Officials emphasized that all matters described remain allegations, and any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Wyomissing Police Department’s incident log indicated a total of 26 calls for service throughout the day, underscoring what officials characterized as a demanding and eventful shift for officers in the borough.
