Ben Simmons Joins South Florida Sails Angling Club Ownership Group

The South Florida Sails Angling Club has announced that former NBA All-Star Ben Simmons has acquired an ownership stake in the organization, marking a notable development in the professional offshore fishing scene. The Sport Fishing Championship (SFC) revealed on December 23, 2025, that Simmons, who was the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, is part of a diverse ownership group committed to elevating the sport of angling.

Background of Ben Simmons

Simmons, originally from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, developed a passion for fishing after moving to Newcastle, New South Wales. His lifelong enthusiasm for the sport complements his impressive basketball career, which includes accolades such as being named the NBA Rookie of the Year and earning three All-Star selections while playing for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers.

“I have always believed that investing in what you love means you have a responsibility to help move it forward,” Simmons stated. “Sportfishing has given me incredible experiences, and SFC is creating a platform that treats offshore fishing like the elite sport it is.”

A Diverse Ownership Group

Simmons is joining a group of entrepreneurs with varied backgrounds. Among them is Brad Adam, who brings over 25 years of experience in real estate development and investment. Adam founded Xotic Outdoors, a brand focusing on hunting and fishing culture. His extensive industry knowledge will aid in the club’s growth and community engagement.

Colten Adam, another member of the ownership group, adds expertise from capital markets and private equity. His background in financial services and real estate development will enhance the club’s operational capacity. Zach Smith, with over a decade in the steel industry, contributes a competitive mindset and leadership experience to bolster the club’s initiatives.

Hunter Huddleston complements the team with his focus on institutional investment and strategic growth. With a history of managing significant assets, Huddleston aims to guide the club’s financial planning and infrastructure development.

The South Florida Sails Angling Club, previously operated by the SFC, has already participated in the league’s first two Atlantic Division events of the 2025 season. Mark Neifeld, SFC Commissioner and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about Simmons joining the ownership group, stating, “Ben Simmons is a wonderful addition to SFC’s club ownership group,” reinforcing the shared passion for fishing among its members.

Building for the Future

Simmons’ involvement aligns with his broader investment interests, which include ventures in technology and lifestyle, as well as his recent launch of the fishing apparel brand Reel One Fishing Club. “South Florida Sails Angling Club allows me to advocate for the sport, support its athletes, and help take sportfishing to the next level,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to inspiring future generations of anglers.

The SFC is set to continue its growth trajectory, with an ownership roster that also includes renowned figures such as world No. 1 PGA golfer Scottie Scheffler, country music star Brian Kelley, Pro Bowl NFL running back Raheem Mostert, and NASCAR champion Austin Dillon. The addition of Simmons and the expanded ownership team signals the league’s dedication to creating a premier competitive platform for offshore sport fishing.

Founded in 2021, the Sport Fishing Championship comprises 16 professional angling clubs competing internationally across North America. The league aims to engage fans through innovation while fostering a community around the sport. With Simmons’ investment, the SFC is poised to attract more attention to the world of sport fishing and inspire a new generation of enthusiasts.
