As the festive season comes to a close, residents of Baton Rouge are preparing to dispose of their Christmas trees. The city-parish has announced options for recycling and disposal to ensure an environmentally friendly approach for this year’s waste management.
For those choosing to recycle their Christmas trees, several designated parks will serve as drop-off locations. Residents can take their trees to the following sites:
– Flannery Road Park, located at 801 Flannery Road
– Highland Road Community Park, at 4024 Highland Road
– Memorial Sports Complex, found at 1702 Foss Street
– Scotlandville Parkway, at 3200 Harding Boulevard
– Plank Road Park, located at 9550 Plank Road
– Zachary Community Park, at 20055 Old Scenic Highway
These parks will accept trees until the end of January 2024, providing residents ample time to bring in their old holiday decorations.
In addition to recycling, residents have the option to place their trees curbside for collection. The city-parish has specified that trees can be set out during the regularly scheduled “out-of-cart” trash pickup days. This initiative aims to simplify the disposal process while encouraging responsible waste management.
The city-parish emphasizes the importance of recycling Christmas trees, as this not only helps reduce landfill waste but can also benefit local composting efforts. Residents are reminded to remove all ornaments, tinsel, and lights from their trees before disposal to facilitate recycling.
By following these guidelines, Baton Rouge residents can contribute to a greener community and ensure that their holiday memories are transformed into valuable resources for the environment.
