Rain Hits 2026 Rose Parade: Magic Johnson Leads Celebration

BREAKING: The 2026 Rose Parade is underway in Pasadena, California, marking its 137th year, but for the first time in two decades, rain is drenching the festivities. Despite the wet weather, the parade features an array of colorful floats, marching bands, and performers, celebrating a fresh start to the new year.

The celebration kicked off at 8 a.m. PST with 19 marching bands, 17 equestrian groups, and 39 floats, all decorated with vibrant flowers along the 5.5-mile route. This year’s grand marshal is basketball legend and philanthropist Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who embodies this year’s theme, “The Magic in Teamwork,” introduced by Tournament of Roses President Mark Leavens.

Rain is expected to persist throughout the day, a first since 2006, prompting attendees to don rain gear. This year’s parade holds special significance as it comes nearly one year after the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires, which claimed 31 lives and destroyed thousands of structures, including parts of the town of Altadena, just miles from the parade route.

Throughout the day, there will be various tributes to victims, survivors, and first responders from the wildfires, adding a poignant element to the festivities. The community’s resilience shines through the celebration, reminding spectators of hope and unity.
