Classic Outdoors Show “Minnesota Bound” Moves to KSTP After 30 Years

After a remarkable three-decade run on KARE 11, the iconic outdoors program “Minnesota Bound” is transitioning to KSTP, with new episodes set to air on January 4, 2024. The weekly broadcasts will take place on Sunday nights at 23:00, with a repeat the following Saturday at 21:30 on KSTC-TV (Channel 45 or 5.2, depending on the provider).

Launched in 1995 by renowned outdoors columnist Ron Schara, “Minnesota Bound” has amassed a loyal following, featuring over 850 episodes. Schara, who hosted the show alongside his beloved black Labrador retrievers named Raven, retired in 2018 but has continued to make appearances. Following his departure, the show has been co-hosted by Schara’s daughter Laura Schara and outdoors journalist Bill Sherck.

The program’s format and storytelling approach will remain unchanged despite the network switch, ensuring that fans can continue to enjoy the rich narratives that have defined its legacy. The transition is viewed as a strategic move to expand the reach of “Minnesota Bound” and to foster its storytelling legacy for another 30 years. Scott Fransen, CEO of Ron Schara Productions, expressed confidence in the transition, stating, “This move is the right step to broaden Minnesota Bound’s footprint.”

The show has been a staple of Minnesota’s outdoor culture, celebrating the state’s natural beauty and the experiences that come with it. With the new network, producers aim to attract a broader audience while continuing to highlight the adventures that resonate with local viewers.

In addition to his television work, Ron Schara authored a book titled “Ron Schara’s Minnesota: Mostly True Tales of a Life Outdoors” in 2021, further cementing his legacy in outdoor storytelling. As the show moves forward, it promises to uphold the traditions that have made it a beloved part of Minnesota’s broadcasting history.

Fans can look forward to the premiere of the new season and the continued exploration of Minnesota’s vast outdoor offerings.
