Caltrans Expands Highway 37 Maintenance Work This Week

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is advancing its Capital Preventive Maintenance Project on State Route 37 (SR-37) this week. The project focuses on erosion control measures within a three-mile stretch between Atherton Avenue and the Petaluma River Bridge in Novato. Daytime closures are set to begin on January 8, 2024, and will continue through January 12, 2024.

Erosion control work will be conducted on both the westbound and eastbound lanes of SR-37. Each direction will have specific working hours; eastbound work will take place from 07:00 to 13:00, while westbound work will occur from 09:00 to 17:00 each day. Motorists should anticipate intermittent ramp closures depending on the work location, particularly at the US-101 interchange near SR-37, as well as at the exits for Hanna Ranch Road and Atherton Avenue.

This maintenance project is weather-dependent, meaning that operations could be adjusted based on local conditions. The work aims to enhance the roadway’s longevity through paving and median barrier installation, crucial for improving safety and driving conditions in the area.

The initiative will grind and repave the roadway from the Ignacio overhead to the Petaluma River Bridge, which is vital for addressing ongoing wear and tear on this heavily traveled route. As this project unfolds, Caltrans encourages drivers to stay informed about ongoing maintenance activities and to plan their travels accordingly.
