Community Mourns Loss of Margie E. (Collins) Lewis at 93

Margie E. (Collins) Lewis passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Her peaceful departure marked the end of a life dedicated to both family and community in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Born on October 15, 1932, in Carter County, Margie spent her early years in the Blue Springs area before graduating from Unaka High School in 1951.

Throughout her career, Margie held various positions in the retail sector, beginning at Kress and continuing her journey through Anderson Grocery, Wright’s Grocery, and Giant Supermarket. She ultimately retired from Winn-Dixie, where she excelled as the deli and bakery manager. Margie’s passion for cooking and baking was well-known; she once showcased her skills by entering an apple stack cake at the Gray Fair, where she received a winning ribbon.

Family and Community Contributions

Margie shared a deep bond with her husband, Clyde “C.H.” Lewis, with whom she enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Together, they cherished simple pleasures, such as scenic drives through the mountains and dining out. Following Clyde’s passing, Margie moved in with her daughter, Barbara Shaw, where she continued to be a beloved figure.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Spurgeon Collins and Bessie Pierce Collins, as well as her husband and several siblings. Margie is survived by her daughter Barbara and her husband, Roger; her grandson, Jason Shaw, and his wife, Melissa; and her great-granddaughter, Gracie Shaw, along with many extended family members and friends, including special friends Ruby Hatley, Carol Myers, and Dianna O’Dell.

Memorial Services and Tributes

A service to honor Margie’s life will take place at 6 p.m. on January 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton. The service will be led by Dr. James Richardson, with the family welcoming friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. prior to the ceremony.

A committal and entombment service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on January 7, 2026, at the Mausoleum of Peace in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Attendees are asked to arrive by 10:45 a.m. for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department at 126 Ranger Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643, in memory of Margie.
