UPDATE: In an inspiring move, Steven Stewart, a blind massage therapist, is offering free massages to single parents in Orland Park as part of his mission to give back to the community. Stewart, who opened Unsighted Massage in September 2025, is making a profound impact just weeks after announcing his initiative.
Stewart, who lost his vision eight years ago, has turned his life around, stating, “I’m in a better place now than I was back then — physically, emotionally, mentally.” His transition from a forklift driver to a massage therapist has fueled his desire to support those facing challenges in life, particularly single parents.
The giveaway, which targets five single parents, will be selected randomly through social media entries. This initiative comes in response to recent hardships faced by families, especially as 2 million Illinoisans lost their SNAP benefits due to a federal government shutdown. “A lot of my overhead is my time and my hands, and I don’t mind giving that to people,” Stewart emphasized.
In a heartwarming twist, local resident Tracy Beagarie discovered Stewart on social media and offered to create charcuterie boards for the single parents receiving massages. “To see his post just kind of hit that heart string for me,” Beagarie shared. Stewart’s compassionate approach has led to him helping more than just five families, with emotional stories pouring in from his clients.
As Stewart continues to provide services at Nicole Richards Hair Salon, he has attracted attention not only for his skills but also for his unwavering support for clients. Mary Lynn Fleck, salon owner and cancer survivor, praised Stewart’s dedication, saying, “There are not many people who could have their sight taken away and turn around and give back as much as Steven has given back.”
Stewart’s mission is not just about massages; it’s about building a community of support and kindness. He aims to uplift those who feel overwhelmed, stating, “I want to hug you, but I can’t.” This initiative highlights the importance of compassion in the face of adversity.
As the deadline for entries approaches, the community is encouraged to participate and share the information widely. Stewart’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience and the human spirit’s capacity to give back, regardless of personal challenges.
Stay tuned for more updates on Stewart’s giveaway and how you can get involved in this uplifting initiative.
