Asian supermarket chain H Mart has announced plans to open its largest location in the United States in Fremont, California. Construction is slated to begin in late 2026 at the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, marking a significant expansion for the popular retailer known for its diverse offerings of Asian foods.
Vestar, the management company of the shopping center, disclosed the details of the project on Tuesday. They emphasized that this venture represents the largest investment in H Mart’s history and will also be its biggest store in California. The new store will span approximately 100,000 square feet and feature a two-story layout.
The innovative design of this flagship store will include a food hall with various fast-casual eateries, dine-in restaurants, a bar, and entertainment options. These features will set this location apart as a first-of-its-kind H Mart. According to H Mart President Brian Kwon, this new development signifies a “bold new chapter” for the company. He stated, “By blending elevated dining and community spaces, we are creating a premier destination for food lovers where diverse ethnicities of friends and neighbors can gather.”
Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan expressed enthusiasm for the project, calling it a “transformative investment.” He praised the innovative reuse of a vacant large-format retail space, highlighting the city’s strategic commitment to revitalizing commercial properties into meaningful community hubs. Salwan noted that such projects generate jobs and provide lasting community value.
The Pacific Commons Shopping Center, located at 43440 Boscell Road, will host this new H Mart, which will become the fourth location for the chain in the Bay Area. Existing stores are situated in San Francisco, Dublin, and two locations in San Jose.
Founded in 1982 in Woodside, Queens, H Mart has grown into a prominent name in the Asian grocery market across the United States. The upcoming store in Fremont is anticipated to enhance the shopping landscape in the Bay Area, catering to an increasingly diverse population eager for unique dining and shopping experiences.
As construction progresses, the local community looks forward to a vibrant new space that promises to elevate the culinary and shopping experiences in the region.
