A collision between a BMW and a box truck in El Cajon, California, resulted in the death of a 19-year-old driver on October 19, 2023. The incident took place around 15:25 local time near the intersection of Broadway and Oro Street, as confirmed by Lt. Joe Crawford of the El Cajon Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the box truck overturned on its side. Witnesses reported that the box truck was briefly engulfed in flames following the crash. The driver of the BMW, identified as Jesse Hernandez, was trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle. Emergency responders managed to extricate him and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two individuals working inside the box truck sustained minor injuries. Lt. Crawford indicated that excessive speed may have contributed to the accident, as witnesses described the BMW possibly participating in a speed contest with another vehicle prior to the collision.
