Urgent: 6 Hospitalized After Serious Car Crash in Mission District

BREAKING: A serious car crash in the Mission District has left six people hospitalized, with two pedestrians suffering life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the intersection of 22nd Street and South Van Ness Avenue, as confirmed by police and fire officials on the scene.

According to Bill Storti, Assistant Chief of the Fire Department, the two critically injured pedestrians were quickly transported to San Francisco General Hospital. The other four victims—two from the vehicle that struck the pedestrians and two from an oncoming vehicle—sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.

Eyewitness reports describe a chaotic scene with shoes and clothes scattered across the street. One slipper was notably found on the roof of the car involved in the collision. As emergency services responded, one occupant from the vehicle striking the pedestrians was seen being loaded into a neck brace.

Local resident Amerie Wheeler, who lives nearby, recounted hearing the screeching of brakes followed by a “big crash” and desperate cries for help. Upon rushing outside, she saw two individuals lying on the street, one conscious and inquiring about the status of the other, who appeared unresponsive.

Fire Chief Storti expressed cautious optimism, stating he believed that both pedestrians would survive the ordeal. The police have cordoned off the area for investigation, as first responders worked diligently to assist the injured.

This incident underscores the urgent need for pedestrian safety measures in urban areas, particularly in busy neighborhoods like the Mission District. Authorities are expected to provide updates on the victims’ conditions as the investigation unfolds.
