Thomasville’s 105th Rose Show Opens with Stunning Orchid Display and Community Celebration

Thomasville’s 105th Annual Rose Show Kicks Off with Spectacular Orchid Display

Thomasville, GA – The 105th annual Thomasville Rose Show and Festival opened with great excitement on Friday morning as the community gathered inside the Municipal Building for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Orchids on Parade exhibit. Attendees were immediately captivated by the vibrant array of locally grown orchids, presented by the Thomasville Orchid Society and its partner Big Bend Orchid Society.

The combined efforts of these two groups created a stunning showcase of rare and beautiful orchids, attracting enthusiasts and casual visitors alike eager to learn from expert growers and purchase plants from vendors including Orchid House 850 and Orchids in Bloom. President of the Thomasville Orchid Society, Michael Thomas, welcomed attendees with enthusiasm.

“You will be amazed,” Thomas said, praising the local members who designed and assembled the display.

The event was given added prominence by Mayor Scott Chastain, who praised the community’s resilience in making the festival possible despite record-breaking dry conditions in the region. According to drought.gov, parts of South Georgia, including Thomas County, faced historic drought from September 2025 through March 2026, finally seeing an inch of rain only the day before the event.

“It’s an honor to celebrate the 105th Rose Show Festival and open with the Orchids on Parade exhibit,” Chastain remarked. The mayor also shared a personal moment, mentioning plans to return with his mother, who he expects to buy many orchids from the display.

The official opening was led by reigning Miss Thomasville 2025, Ana Chambers, and her court, cutting the ribbon to mark the festival’s start. The event runs through the weekend, inviting visitors to enjoy the beauty of blooms, meet growers, and explore vendor offerings.

Orchid Enthusiasts Celebrated Despite Challenging Weather

Michael Thomas highlighted the significance of the orchids blooming despite the adverse weather. “With an orchid collection, you’re never quite sure when they’ll bloom,” he explained, emphasizing the blessing of the current vibrant display in the face of tough drought conditions.

Local gardeners and orchid hobbyists from diverse backgrounds contributed to the impressive exhibition. Thomas encouraged visitors to connect with the Thomasville Orchid Society, which holds monthly meetings every second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Dawson Street Methodist Church, 1132 N. Dawson St.
