Ukrainian Forces Launch Fourth Strike on Russian Oil Terminal at Tuapse
Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian military forces struck an oil terminal in the Russian Black Sea city of Tuapse on Friday, marking the fourth attack on the region’s critical oil infrastructure in just over two weeks, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed.
The strike caused explosions and a major fire at the local oil facility, which had been hit previously on April 16, April 20, and April 28. Regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported that a fire at the city’s oil refinery had been extinguished less than 24 hours before this latest attack.
Russian officials attributed the blaze to a Ukrainian drone strike but said no casualties were reported at the facility this time.
Russia Responds With Massive Drone Swarm Attacks Across Ukraine
In retaliation, Russian forces intensified drone strikes across Ukraine, launching over 210 drones in a sweeping attack Friday, with approximately 140 identified as “Shahed” drones, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on Telegram.
The western Ukrainian city of Ternopil was heavily bombarded with more than 50 drones, hitting industrial facilities and vital infrastructure. Mayor Serhii Nadal confirmed at least 10 people were wounded, and some neighborhoods remain without electricity.
At the same time, overnight Russian drone strikes damaged multi-story residential buildings and port infrastructure in the southern city of Odesa. Fires broke out in two high-rises, including a 16-story apartment building where one unit was destroyed and the roof ignited. Ukraine’s Emergency Service confirmed a fire engulfed the 12th floor of another building.
According to President Zelenskyy, at least five people were wounded in the southern region amid bloodshed extending to the central city of Kryvyi Rih and the northeastern Kharkiv region. In Kharkiv, railway infrastructure sustained hits, further disrupting movement and logistics.
Why This Matters Now
The latest series of strikes reflects the escalating intensity and geographic spread of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Ukraine’s ability to repeatedly target key Russian oil infrastructure at Tuapse signals a strategic blow to Russian energy operations on the Black Sea coast. Meanwhile, Russia’s drone swarm demonstrates its intent to cripple Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure, risking more casualties and infrastructure failures.
What to Watch Next
Analysts and officials will monitor both Russia’s resilience and Ukraine’s ongoing ability to strike high-value targets deep inside Russian territory. The humanitarian impact continues to grow as residential areas face destruction and civilian casualties increase. U.S. and global observers remain vigilant, considering these attacks’ implications for regional stability and energy security.
President Zelenskyy: “Russia continues to attack our energy infrastructure, critical infrastructure, and civilian objects.”
This rapid escalation of drone and missile strikes in multiple regions across Ukraine, combined with Ukraine’s sharpened offensive on Russian energy hubs, highlights a volatile phase in the war that demands immediate international attention.
