Edgewater’s Ben Jones Earns US Army All-American Invite NOW

UPDATE: Edgewater offensive lineman Ben Jones, formerly known as Ben Bankowitz, has just been selected to participate in the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl on December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. This recognition follows his standout performance as a key player on the Eagles’ offensive line, which currently boasts an impressive 9-0 record this season.

Jones, ranked No. 43 in the Sentinel’s 2026 Central Florida Super60, expressed his gratitude for the honor, stating, “It feels really good… I just give the glory to God.” The selection highlights not only his personal achievements but also the collective success of Edgewater, the champions of Class 7A, District 5.

The Eagles are gearing up for their next challenge against Boone in the highly anticipated Barrel Game rivalry on October 30, where both teams will enter the matchup undefeated. “We still got six more games to go,” Jones emphasized, showcasing his determination to contribute to the team’s ongoing success.

Jones has been a stalwart on the Edgewater offensive line since his freshman year, demonstrating exceptional skill and technique. “Technique is one of the most pivotal components of being an offensive lineman,” he noted, reflecting on his development over the years. His work ethic has transformed him into one of the top offensive linemen in Florida.

“I just feel like they have some of the best coaches in the country,” said Jones, affirming his commitment to Appalachian State, where he plans to continue his football career.

His commitment to Appalachian State was solidified on June 17, largely due to the recruitment efforts of offensive line coach Allen Mogridge, who has a strong connection to Central Florida. Jones praised the program’s culture and coaching staff, highlighting their role in his decision.

Jones, who stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 295 pounds, is known for his agility and blocking assignment awareness. His transformation from tackle to interior lineman is expected as he transitions to college. “I’m locked in,” he stated, affirming his focus on his future at Appalachian State.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Patrick Browning, Jones has thrived, praising Browning’s expertise and support. The team’s cohesive bond, especially following the departure of former coach Cameron Duke, has been crucial in maintaining morale and unity.

“We had team meetings and we talked every day about how we had to have the whole team stay on track during the offseason,” Jones explained. This commitment has proven effective, allowing the Eagles to remain a formidable force in the state.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jones and his teammates as they aim to maintain their undefeated status and prepare for the upcoming All-American Bowl. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
