Holy Family Haven Launches 72 Affordable Apartments in Clarkston

URGENT UPDATE: Clarkston officially welcomes the Holy Family Haven, a new apartment complex providing 72 affordable housing units. The grand opening ceremony took place earlier today at 1411 Port Drive, where local leaders and community members celebrated this significant development in affordable housing.

Students from Holy Family Catholic School played a vital role in the project, contributing artwork and ideas that inspired the complex’s name. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” said Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing. Excitement filled the air as families began moving in, with 50% of the units already occupied.

The ceremony featured a blessing by a priest and remarks from city leaders, including Mayor Monika Lawrence, who praised the project. “John Pilcher promised Clarkston a top-notch housing project, and he really delivered,” she stated. Pilcher, executive director of Horizon Housing Alliance, emphasized that Holy Family Haven is not just a shelter but a community aimed at providing families with a safe and secure environment.

Currently, 30% of the units remain available for eligible families. Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact Catholic Charities for assistance. Mallahan highlighted the complex’s purpose, stating, “It’s not just a place to live; it’s a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.”

Holy Family Haven will offer full support services designed to uplift families facing financial challenges. KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment provided $31.4 million for the construction, ensuring that 70 units are reserved for families earning between 30% to 60% of the area median income, with an additional 35 units designated for individuals who have experienced homelessness.

In addition to housing, the complex will provide essential services including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, transportation to medical appointments, senior support, employment assistance, and fresh, healthy food distribution.

Applications for residency can be submitted via the official website at housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply. This initiative represents a crucial step towards addressing the affordable housing crisis in the region, making it a development to watch closely as families begin to settle into their new homes.
