Suzanne R. Rubincam, a cherished resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in nearby Redondo Beach. She was 84 years old. Suzanne, affectionately known as Sue, dedicated her life to music education and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity.
A Life Dedicated to Family and Music
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Suzanne attended Northwestern University, where she developed a passion for music. It was during her time at university that she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., who charmed his way into her heart at her Debutante Ball. The couple married and moved to California, where they settled in their Lunada Bay neighborhood for over five decades.
Suzanne was predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, Paul, and her parents, Ellis and Elizabeth Ruddick. She is survived by her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, and his wife, Denise; her daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman, and her husband, Will; and three granddaughters: Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. Together, they remember her as a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother known for her warmth and joy.
Impactful Teaching and Lasting Memories
In her professional life, Suzanne made a significant impact as a music teacher at Rolling Hills Country Day School. She was beloved by her students for her ability to inspire joy through music. Her elaborate plays not only showcased the talents of her students but also fostered a deep appreciation for the arts among young learners.
Outside of her teaching career, Suzanne enjoyed spending summers at the Portuguese Bend Club, where she cherished moments with friends. Her creative spirit extended into needlepoint, producing intricate works of art that she proudly gifted to family and friends. In her garden, she nurtured roses that thrived under her care, a reflection of her nurturing personality.
Known for her infectious smile, Suzanne also delighted family and friends with her famous lemon meringue pie, which became a cherished family recipe. She and Paul were renowned for their dancing skills, often lighting up the dance floor at events. Those who knew them fondly recall the inseparable bond between “Paul and Susie,” believing that they are now dancing together once more.
