Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. have introduced two innovative models inspired by characters from the beloved Pokémon franchise at the Japan Mobility Show. The show, which opens today at Tokyo Big Sight and runs until November 9, 2023, showcases cutting-edge vehicles and technologies, attracting significant attention from enthusiasts.
The featured models are based on the Pokémon characters Miraidon and Koraidon, both of which bear a dragon-like appearance and can transform into motorcycle-like vehicles. This collaboration aims to highlight the fun aspect of vehicle manufacturing, according to company officials.
The initiative began when a group of volunteers from Toyota and The Pokémon Company collaboratively re-created the Miraidon model in 2024. Following this creative endeavor, Honda took inspiration and developed its own model, Koraidon, which was unveiled in March 2023.
The Miraidon model from Toyota measures approximately 4 meters (about 13 feet) in length, showcasing the company’s engineering capabilities. Meanwhile, Honda’s Koraidon model features advanced technology, allowing it to drive autonomously on two wheels. This innovation utilizes the same technology found in Honda’s renowned Asimo humanoid robot, marking a significant step forward in mobility solutions.
The Japan Mobility Show is expected to attract over 1 million visitors, similar to its previous iteration in fiscal 2023. As the event progresses, both Toyota and Honda’s Pokémon-themed models are anticipated to captivate audiences, blending nostalgia with futuristic automotive technology. This collaboration not only enhances the companies’ visibility in the market but also underscores the increasing intersection of technology and entertainment in the automotive industry.
