A tragic incident unfolded in Siberia, Russia, when a teenager was killed by a bear during a summer outing with her stepfather. Nineteen-year-old Olga Moskalyova was enjoying a day along the river with her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, when they encountered multiple bears, leading to a horrifying attack. The distressing event was made more harrowing as Olga was on the phone with her mother, Tatiana Moskalyova, who listened helplessly as the ordeal unfolded.
The day began like any other, filled with promise and excitement. However, it quickly turned into a nightmare when Olga and Igor found themselves in a life-threatening situation. As the bears approached, Olga called her mother, describing the terrifying encounter. In a chilling turn of events, the phone was snatched away from her, marking the last moment Tatiana would hear her daughter’s voice.
During the attack, Olga witnessed the bear assault her stepfather before it pursued her. As she fled, the mother bear chased her for approximately 70 yards and ultimately caught her leg. In a desperate attempt to alert her mother, Olga made several frantic calls. According to Tatiana, her daughter screamed, “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!” Initially believing it to be a prank, Tatiana’s fear escalated when she heard the sounds of growling and chewing on the other end of the line.
“I thought I could have died then and there from shock,” Tatiana recalled. The terror escalated as Olga continued to call out to her mother, and an hour later, she uttered her final words: “Mum, it’s not hurting anymore. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything; I love you so much.”
Devastated and in disbelief, Tatiana immediately contacted the authorities. The police arrived at the scene approximately 90 minutes later. Tragically, six hunters were dispatched to track the bears, only to discover them still feeding on Olga’s lifeless body.
Before this tragic incident, Olga was known for her vibrant personality. Her mother described her as “fun, warm, and friendly.” Just days prior to the attack, Olga had graduated from music school and obtained her driving license, marking significant milestones in her young life. Both Olga and Igor were laid to rest on the same day, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
Bear attacks in Russia have been reported to be increasingly common, particularly in areas where wildlife is searching for food and perceives human presence as a threat. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers that can arise from encounters with wildlife, highlighting the need for caution in nature.
