The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Monday near the intersection of W. 20th Avenue and W. 76th Street, according to NBC6 South Florida News.

Authorities report that Rios was driving his 2022 Toyota Supra at a shocking 80 mph in a 30 mph zone at the time of the crash. An officer had attempted to pursue Rios after clocking his excessive speed, but lost sight of him as he recklessly wove through traffic and entered oncoming lanes.

The chase culminated in tragedy when Rios failed to navigate a curve, crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a Ford Mustang. The impact was severe, resulting in immediate transport to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital for the Mustang’s driver and passenger.
