BREAKING: Marjorie Sack Hobday, aged 95, has passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025. Surrounded by her loving family, her departure marks the end of a remarkable life filled with music, creativity, and love.
Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise Sack. She is remembered not only for her vibrant spirit but also for her commitment to her family and community. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack.
Marjorie’s educational journey included attending St. Agnes School, Burnt Hills High School, and later, Skidmore College. Her lifelong passion for music was a cornerstone of her life, as she and Richard actively participated in several musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. They also contributed their talents to numerous church choirs, creating harmonious connections that resonated throughout their community.
A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie’s resourcefulness was evident in her many creative pursuits, from gardening to crafting. Her summers at their cherished camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir were filled with memories of nature and family, where she first met Richard at a square dance—a meeting that sparked a lifelong romance.
Marjorie was not only an artist but also an enthusiastic host of an annual Holiday Art Show Open House for over 40 years, showcasing her and Richard’s artistic endeavors. Her legacy is one of grace, creativity, and unwavering support for her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday; daughters, Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad; grandchildren, Katherine, Anne, Henry, Joshua (Elizabeth), Zachary (Andrea), Nicholas (Monica); and great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Maxwell, and Freya. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Virginia Sack, and her kind neighbor, David Vasko.
In an urgent update, a Mass to celebrate Marjorie’s life will take place on November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. After the committal service, all are invited to a reception in the church hall to honor Marjorie’s memory.
