Herrin City Library Celebrates Veterans Day with Free Movie and Services

In a gesture of appreciation for military service, the Herrin City Library will host a free screening of Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed film, “War Horse,” on November 11, 2025, at 14:00. The event, taking place in the library’s meeting room, aims to honor Veterans Day and provide a communal space for reflection and entertainment. Attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee and movie snacks during the screening.

In addition to the film presentation, the library is extending its services at no cost to all veterans, reservists, active duty military personnel, and their immediate families. This initiative will be in effect until November 26, allowing these individuals to access the library’s resources without any fees.

The screening of “War Horse” is more than just a film event; it serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those in the armed forces. The film, released in 2011, tells the story of a young man and his horse during World War I, embodying themes of courage, loyalty, and the deep bond between humans and animals.

The Herrin City Library encourages community members to come together for this special occasion. By offering free access to library services, the library aims to support veterans and their families, reinforcing its commitment to the local community. This initiative highlights the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of military personnel.

Residents of Herrin and the surrounding areas are invited to attend this meaningful event. The library hopes that the film screening, combined with the appreciation of its services, will foster a sense of unity and gratitude among attendees. As Veterans Day approaches, this event presents a unique opportunity for the community to express its thanks and support for those who have served.
