UPDATE: Major disruptions are impacting train service on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) this weekend, with crucial changes affecting multiple branches. Service interruptions began early this morning, October 14, 2023, and are set to last until 2:15 a.m. on Monday, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
For commuters on the Port Jefferson Branch, service is fully suspended between Mineola and Huntington. To facilitate travel, hourly shuttle buses are available, stopping at Hicksville, Syosset, and Cold Spring Harbor. Additionally, there will be no LIRR service at Carle Place and Westbury. Passengers are advised to utilize the NICE bus routes n22, n24, or n35, which will accept LIRR tickets at no extra cost. Limited shuttle services will also be operational overnight at these stations.
On the Ronkonkoma Branch, trains are running every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma, but will be rerouted via the south shore. Notably, trains will change direction twice between Jamaica and Farmingdale without making any station stops. Commuters should plan for at least an additional 50 minutes of travel time to reach their destinations. There is also no service at Bethpage, and travelers should use the Farmingdale or Seaford LIRR stations instead.
These significant service changes are the result of necessary signal upgrade work in Hicksville, as confirmed by MTA officials. Commuters are urged to stay updated on the latest developments via the MTA website to avoid potential delays.
As service disruptions unfold, it is crucial for all LIRR passengers to adjust their travel plans accordingly. Share this information with fellow commuters to ensure everyone is informed during this important service change period.
