Brewers’ Pat Murphy Wins NL Manager of the Year Again

BREAKING: Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy has been named the NL Manager of the Year for the second consecutive season, solidifying his status as a top leader in Major League Baseball. The announcement was made just last night, revealing that Murphy received an impressive 27 of 30 first-place votes, outpacing contenders Rob Thomson of Philadelphia and Terry Francona of Cincinnati.

This recognition is especially significant as Murphy joins an elite group of managers, being the first to win the award in back-to-back years since Bobby Cox in 2004 and 2005. Murphy’s remarkable leadership guided the Brewers to a franchise-record 97-65 season, making them the best team in Major League Baseball this year.

The Brewers experienced a dramatic turnaround, previously sitting in second place in the NL Central before launching an extraordinary 29-4 run that included a historic 14-game winning streak. This run propelled them past the Chicago Cubs, culminating in a memorable NL Division Series victory, marking Milwaukee’s first postseason series win since sweeping Colorado in the 2018 NLDS.

Murphy, who will celebrate his 67th birthday on November 28, previously served as Milwaukee’s bench coach for eight seasons before taking the helm following Craig Counsell‘s departure to the Cubs in November 2023. His track record includes a successful stint in college coaching at both Notre Dame and Arizona State, along with a brief managerial role with the San Diego Padres.

Meanwhile, Rob Thomson led the Philadelphia Phillies to a stellar 96-66 record and another NL East title, finishing fifth in this year’s voting. Terry Francona, a three-time AL Manager of the Year, guided the Cincinnati Reds to their first playoff appearance since 2020, making the competition for the award fierce.

As the MLB Awards Week continues, fans are eagerly awaiting the announcements for the Cy Young Awards on Wednesday and the MVPs on Thursday. With the excitement in the air and the season’s achievements fresh in fans’ minds, Murphy’s victory is a testament to his skill and resilience, ensuring that the Milwaukee Brewers remain a force to be reckoned with in the league.
