Vernon Nathe, Beloved Family Man and Business Owner, Passes Away

Vernon A. Nathe, a cherished father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 88 years old. Born in Clarkston, Washington in 1937, Vern was the youngest of five siblings born to Elizabeth and Peter Nathe. His life was marked by dedication to family, faith, and community.

After graduating from Washington State University, Vern enlisted in the military, serving two years stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the United States, he settled in Mountain View, California, where he met his future wife, Lou Elsa Voegtly. The couple enjoyed a loving marriage that lasted 60 years and raised three sons: Michael, Matthew, and Jonathan.

Vern’s professional journey included a significant tenure at Dominican College in San Rafael, California, where he ran his own business, Nathe Food Service. Later, he became the owner of West Brooklyn Pizza, also in San Rafael. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality made a lasting impact on the local community.

A devoted Christian, Vern actively participated in his church choir and regularly contributed to church activities. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and relationships.

Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Vern had a passion for golf. He was a long-time member of the Marin Country Club, where he enjoyed many days on the green. Vern was also a dedicated fan of the San Francisco 49ers, holding season tickets from the days of Kezar Stadium through their time at Candlestick Park. He later passed these cherished tickets to his sons when the team relocated to Santa Clara.

Vern is remembered as a loyal friend and a supportive member of his community. He is survived by his wife, Lou Elsa, three sons, four grandchildren, his sister Ethel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on November 22 at Our Lady of Loretto, located at 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato. The service will include a Rosary at 10:30 AM and Mass at 11:00 AM.

Vern’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to resonate with all who knew him.
