Gino Porzio, a cherished member of the Ukiah community, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on October 14, 1943, in Ukiah, California, Gino was known for his unwavering dedication to family and his contributions to the community.
Raised by his parents, Luigi and Gina Porzio, alongside his siblings, Gino developed a strong sense of family from an early age. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances “Diane” Porzio, who passed on July 20, 2020, after 49 years of marriage. Gino is survived by their four sons: Ryan, Kevin, Scott, and Shane, who carry on his legacy.
Early Life and Career
In his formative years, Gino worked at the Palace Hotel and enjoyed cruising around Ukiah on his Vespa. His youthful romance with Diane sparked a lifelong commitment, as he would often ride out to visit her during her time at Rio Lindo Adventist Academy. Their bond culminated in marriage in July 1973, marking the beginning of a family-centered life.
Gino dedicated his professional life to B&F Electric as an electrician. He and Diane bought a modest home with a spacious backyard, where they raised their four sons. Family activities were a cornerstone of Gino’s life; he made a point to take his sons camping each year and was a vocal supporter at their various sports events, from BMX races to soccer matches.
Community Contributions and Legacy
In 1990, Gino undertook a remarkable project by purchasing the historic Bittenbender house for just one dollar. He skillfully relocated the structure to 211 South Spring Street, demonstrating his resourcefulness and commitment to preserving local heritage. Gino’s efforts were a testament to his craftsmanship and determination.
Beyond his community projects, Gino was a man of quiet strength, known for his unwavering loyalty and gentle humor. He had a deep affection for his family and a special bond with his dogs, who were an integral part of his life. His values of kindness and hard work profoundly impacted those around him, ensuring that his legacy will endure through the lives of his children and the memories they created together.
Gino Porzio will be remembered for his contributions to both family and community. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, dedication, and craftsmanship. A service to honor his life will take place at the Empire Mortuary on November 22, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00.
