Virginia Boding, Esteemed Educator and Community Pillar, Passes at 81

Virginia Hagaman Boding, a respected educator and beloved member of her community, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on January 20, 1944, to Floyd and Mildred Fenner Hagaman, she was one of three children, alongside her siblings, Genevieve and David. Virginia’s legacy is marked not only by her commitment to education but also by her deep connections to family and community.

Virginia attended Grass Valley High School before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science and a secondary teaching credential at Chico State University. Her passion for teaching led her to a career focused on inspiring middle school students. Although she briefly taught at Bidwell Junior High, the majority of her teaching career was spent at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Red Bluff, California.

Throughout her life, Virginia was dedicated to education and the dissemination of knowledge. She wielded her writing skills to share her love for the local flora, penning a column about wildflowers for a regional newspaper. Her contributions extended beyond the classroom as she also shared her love for music by participating in her church choir and teaching guitar.

Virginia’s family was central to her life. She was married to Robert (Bob) Boding for 54 years and together they raised their son, Benjamin Scott, who is married to Tracy Pivovar. Their family was completed by the arrival of their grandson, Tyrus Ayele, who brought immense joy to Virginia during her lifetime.

Community Impact and Legacy

Virginia’s influence reached far beyond her immediate family. Her dedication to her students and commitment to her community earned her the respect and admiration of many. She was deeply rooted in her faith, emphasizing the importance of her church and its congregation in her life.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, her son Benjamin and his wife, Tracy, along with her grandson Tyrus. Virginia’s sister, Genevieve, and her nephews, Kelly and Randall, also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on November 18, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 600 Cemetery Lane in Red Bluff. Following the service, a reception will take place at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Arrangements are being handled by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers.

Virginia Boding’s life was characterized by her passion for teaching, love for her family, and commitment to her community. Her legacy will endure through the countless individuals she inspired and the memories shared by those who loved her.
