Mildred Dolores Louise Danko, aged 89, passed away on November 12, 2025, in her hometown of Republic, West Virginia. Known for her commitment to community service and involvement, Mildred leaves behind a legacy of dedication to both her family and local organizations.
Born to the late George and Suzanne Sheba Danko, Mildred was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, her brother George Albert “Junior” Danko, and her great-nephew, Ryan Danko. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eloise Danko of Ravenswood, West Virginia, along with several beloved nephews and a niece, including Roy David, Edward Michael, John Thomas, and Albert Stanley, as well as many great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.
After graduating from Redstone High School in 1954, Mildred embarked on a successful career. She served as the secretary and office manager for the Penn State Cooperative Extension for 40 years, retiring in 1996. Her professional achievements were complemented by her active role in the community. As a member of the Holy Rosary Church in Republic, Mildred contributed significantly, serving on the Pastoral Council and Cemetery Committee, and acting as a Eucharistic Minister.
Mildred also made history by becoming the first female elected to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Agricultural Improvement Association, where she served as treasurer. Her commitment to community service extended to her role as a licensed cosmetologist and participation in the Ladies Club of Tower Hill #2.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses, and aides at Monarch Meadow and OSPTA for their compassionate care provided to Mildred during her later years.
