DreamWorks Launches Prequel Series for ‘The Bad Guys’ on Netflix

DreamWorks has announced the development of a prequel series based on its popular animated franchise, The Bad Guys, set to premiere on Netflix. This new series will explore the origins of the notorious team and is positioned to broaden the franchise’s appeal following the success of the original films and holiday specials.

The prequel, titled Breaking In, will showcase how the team came together and what led them to a life of crime. Unlike the films, the series introduces a new voice cast, with Michael Godere taking over the role of Wolf from Sam Rockwell, and Chris Diamantopoulos replacing Marc Maron as Snake. Other notable replacements include Ezekiel Ajeigbe for Craig Robinson, Raul Ceballos in place of Anthony Ramos, and Mallory Low taking over for Awkwafina.

This shift from film to television marks a significant move for DreamWorks, which has previously released multiple holiday specials from the franchise on Netflix. The first The Bad Guys film, released in 2022, achieved remarkable box office success, grossing over $250 million worldwide. The sequel, which premiered earlier this year, also performed well, earning approximately $237 million.

The prequel series is designed to be accessible for new viewers. Children who watch the show will not need prior knowledge of the franchise to enjoy it. DreamWorks aims to capture the same vibrant energy that made the films successful while attracting a new audience.

In recent years, DreamWorks has focused on expanding its animated properties, and The Bad Guys is a prime example of this strategy. The series aims to maintain the franchise’s momentum while also tapping into the growing demand for family-friendly content on streaming platforms.

With the launch of Breaking In, DreamWorks is further solidifying its presence in the competitive animation landscape, hoping to build on the franchise’s established success. As the series approaches its premiere, anticipation builds around how it will resonate with audiences and expand the narrative universe of The Bad Guys.
