North Central and Wheaton Secure Spots in NCAA Division III Playoffs

North Central College and Wheaton College have officially qualified for the NCAA Division III football playoffs, marking a significant achievement for both programs. The playoffs are set to begin on November 29, 2025, with North Central aiming to defend their title as reigning champions.

North Central’s Championship Aspirations

Located in suburban Naperville, North Central College enters the playoffs with high expectations. The Cardinals have been a dominant force in Division III football, winning three championships in the last six seasons. They boast an impressive record and will face the winner of the upcoming game between Muhlenberg and Union.

This season, North Central has showcased one of the most explosive offenses in the division, averaging more than 54 points per game, while their defense has allowed just 6.6 points per contest. Key players include running back Donovan Mitchell, who has accumulated 1,009 rushing yards and seven touchdowns across ten games, and quarterback Garrett Wilson, who has thrown for 2,078 yards and 35 touchdowns on only 191 passing attempts.

Wheaton and Other Illinois Teams Join the Fray

Wheaton College, with a solid record of 8-2, will also be competing in the playoffs, facing Crown on November 22. The Thunder have averaged 45.8 points per game, driven by quarterback Mark Forcucci, who has thrown 28 touchdown passes. Running back Matt Crider leads the team in rushing with eight touchdowns, while wide receiver Seth Kortenhoeven has matched that with eight receiving touchdowns.

In addition, Monmouth College has made it to the playoffs, taking on Saint John’s on the same day as North Central’s game. Monmouth has demonstrated a powerful offensive presence, averaging over 50 points per game while allowing only 6.4 points on defense. Running back Nate Wrublik has been a standout with 16 rushing touchdowns in nine games, and quarterback Brayden Deem has thrown for 1,995 yards and 24 touchdowns.
