The Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) has concluded its first Blockchain Impact Forum, focusing on innovative projects that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Held in Copenhagen on November 4–5, 2025, the event successfully gathered over 300 policymakers, technologists, and impact leaders from more than 30 countries, highlighting the potential of blockchain technology to drive positive change.
A Platform for Collaboration
The two-day forum featured a leadership day titled “Chains of Change,” dedicated to exploring governance, digital public infrastructure, and cross-sector partnerships. This was followed by the BGAwards, which included the SDG Blockchain Accelerator Showcase organized by the UNDP Alternative Finance Lab (AltFinLab). This showcase spotlighted blockchain projects addressing significant challenges in financial inclusion, sustainability, and digital trust.
The BGAwards marked a significant milestone as they recognized projects that contribute to global social impact through blockchain technology. Notable winners included Genius Tags, Plastiks, and ZenGate, each receiving $2,000 for their innovative solutions.
Key Discussions and Insights
The forum’s agenda revolved around three main themes: Blockchain for Digital Public Goods, Finance for Inclusion and Impact, and Sustainability and Climate Accountability. Each theme explored critical aspects of how blockchain can enhance governance, democratize access to capital, and provide transparency in ESG reporting.
Prominent speakers included Helen Liu, Co-CEO of Bybit and Founder of the Blockchain for Good Alliance, alongside leaders from various organizations such as the Cardano Foundation and Kraken. Their discussions underscored the evolving role of blockchain in fostering trust-based systems and bridging the gap between innovation and global development.
Helen Liu emphasized the maturity of blockchain technology, stating, “At the Forum, we saw how builders, governments, and institutions are using it to foster transparency, accountability, and tangible social impact.”
The culmination of the forum was the announcement of the BGAwards 2025, which recognized blockchain projects demonstrating measurable contributions to the SDGs. The winners in the Ideation Stage included Kelox, which secured $10,000, while projects like Token Tails and Rumsan led in the Growth Stage, winning $30,000 and $20,000, respectively. Special recognition was also given to individuals like Adam Flinter and Mickey Amami for their stewardship in the blockchain space.
Throughout the forum, emphasis was placed on the necessity for collaboration between public and private sectors. Participants voiced the importance of ensuring that blockchain innovation aligns with human development goals. Liu remarked, “What we witnessed in Copenhagen is a movement taking shape — where blockchain offers a shared infrastructure for trust and accountability.”
The Blockchain for Good Alliance continues to expand its ecosystem, promoting responsible blockchain initiatives that resonate with the promise of technology for a more inclusive and sustainable future. As the forum concluded, it reinforced the potential of blockchain to strengthen institutional trust, unlock new financing avenues, and build transparent systems that advance social and environmental progress.
