Jerry Lee Hatfield, a beloved member of the Ossian community, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 86. His life was distinguished by a strong commitment to family, craftsmanship, and community service, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Born on August 31, 1939, in Ossian, Jerry exemplified dedication throughout his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Sandra Lee (Adams) Hatfield. He leaves behind his sister, Jean Hummel, and two children, Debra Hatfield Kelly and her husband, Thomas J. Kelly, along with his son, James Allen Hatfield, and his wife, Reva Dawn Hatfield. Jerry was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Dr. Meghan Kelly, Lauren (Mitch) Haifley, and Adam (Cameron) Kelly. He also cherished his role as great-grandfather to five great-granddaughters.
Jerry’s service to his country included time in the Air National Guard, where he was stationed in France. His passion for aviation was evident in his involvement with the Fort Wayne Flying Circuits, where he enjoyed flying model airplanes for many years.
A talented craftsman, Jerry dedicated 29 years to J.B. Tool & Die, where he earned respect as a journeyman tool and die maker before retiring in 2001. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Ossian, where he fostered strong relationships and nurtured his faith.

Jerry will be remembered for his steady spirit, gentle humor, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy is embedded in the hearts of generations who were fortunate to know him.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 14:00 at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, located at 120 West Mill Street, Ossian, IN 46777. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. Following the funeral, Jerry will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
