UPDATE: In a thrilling finish, Morgan Geekie scored his second goal at 2:27 PM of overtime, propelling the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on July 14, 2023. This victory ties Geekie for the NHL goals lead, now boasting 16 goals alongside star player Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche.
The overtime winner came after Geekie’s impressive snap shot from the top of the right circle, beating Kings goalie Darcу Kuemper high to the far corner. Earlier in the game, Geekie opened the scoring with a powerful one-timer at 8:01 in the third period, again finding the net past Kuemper.
However, the Kings managed to tie the game when Joel Armia scored a short-handed goal with just 6:57 remaining, capitalizing on a rebound during a rush. This marked Armia’s second short-handed goal in two games, as he took advantage of a tripping penalty against Kevin Fiala.
This victory halts the Bruins’ two-game losing streak as they begin a four-game road trip. Goalie Jeremy Swayman was stellar, making 31 saves to secure the win. Meanwhile, the Kings are struggling, having lost three consecutive games after a brief four-game winning streak, including a loss in a recent shootout against the San Jose Sharks.
Looking ahead, the Bruins will face off against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night, while the Kings prepare to host the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.
Stay tuned for further updates as both teams navigate the challenges ahead in this intense NHL season.
